(Hungarian Metalware-, Gun- und Machine-Company ltd.., Budapest.)
The company was founded by resolution of the Hungarian government end of 1887 and was financed by the Unionbank of Vienna. The Hungarian government placed a contract for an order of 180.000 guns. The begin of delivery was planned in 1889, but because of commercial troubles the production was not even started and end of 1890 the company declared bancrupt.
In 1891 the " Gewerbe- und Handelsbank" took over the company and founded the new "Gun- und Machine-Company ltd.". The "k.u.k. ministery of war "ordered 30.000 guns of different types und the "Hungarian ministery of defence" ordered 65.000 pcs.
In 1896/97 the production was reorganized completely. Since then machines were produced too. In 1900 the company had a steam engine of 400 h.p. working and 1500 workmen employed.
After the 1st world war the company was fusioned with a metalware-company and was renamed as "Metalware-, Gun- and Machine-Company ltd.". The production of mannlicher modell 95 guns was started and later on the Austrian army-pistol model 1907 was produced.
The company got wellknown because of the constructions and pistols of Rudolf Frommer.
Frommer Rudolf was born August 4th 1868 in Budapest and died September 1st 1936 in Budapest. He studied machine-engineering, joined 1896 the company and got general-manager in 1906, which he stayed until 1935.
Up to 1930 Frommer held over 100 patents und many of his constructions were also patented abroad.
